About the Artist
After gaining my degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) at Falmouth School of Art in 1978 I pursued acareer as an artist, selling paintings, drawings and sculptures and exhibiting in England and the Netherlands. I was an early member and Secretary of YASS a Sheffield Charity dedicated to providing affordable studio space for Artists.
In 1983 I obtained a post with a Sheffield company of ornamental Plasterers as a sculptor and mould maker.Working to Architects drawings and also producing many original works in plaster, the work I produced now decorates some of the most prestigious buildings in the world. These include the Café Royal, Grosvenor House Hotel, and the Oriental restaurants in the Dorchester Hotel (now re-developed) .
Other projects included the Sultan of Brunei's London residence on Park Lane ,Les Ambassadeurs Casino as well as the fine jewellery rooms of 'the' most well known store in Knightsbridge. Other work not readily available for viewing by the public can be found in the Saudi Arabian Embassy, Mayfair, for which the company I worked for Troika Architectural mouldings Ltd won the Plaisterers trophy. I also did work for the Al Bustan Hotel in Oman and other private residences in the middle east, incuding before it was destroyed one of Sadam Husseins palaces.
Using techniques learned in the Fibrous plaster industry I made a model farmhouse for my daughter in which to house her collection of Britains plastic farm animals. This was to lead to the eventual formation of JG Miniatures.
By working in my spare time and attending Toy Fairs and trade shows I discovered the Adult Farm and Toy Soldier collectors market and through talking to collectors and dealers started developing other models, eventually building up a worldwide customer base. In 1996 I established JG Miniatures as a full time business and left my day job with the plastering company.
I have purposefully kept the business small . All research, master modelling, finishing and painting, as well as the day to day running of the business is done by myself with help from family and friends at busy times.
The models I make have gone through many stages of development in the quest for more realism, the early buildings were produced in plaster but are now made from Polyeurethene resin.
I strive to give an efficient and personal sevice and offer a No quibble money back Guarentee if any customer is not satisfied .
I have no secretary, so if you contact me by phone or e-mail it is usually me that answers
I would like to sincerely thank all past, present and future customers for making JG Miniatures a success.
